Wrestling Wednesday: Officially a Professional Pro Wrestling Writer

I am officially a professional pro wrestling writer, and it feels so good. In my eight years as a professional writer, only once have I felt better about writing anything. It was Jan. 1, 2014, in a McDonald’s in Denver, after the first legal recreational cannabis sale in the country’s history. That was the single greatest press event I’ve ever attended, and as a long-time advocate for cannabis, it felt like the first win of many more to come.

On March 6, 2022 I got paid to cover the betting lines for All Elite Wrestling Revolution for BettingPlanet.com, and it felt like the first of endless opportunities to write about pro wrestling. I might never pay for another AEW pay-per-view again. I mean, I’ll pay for all of them, but with somebody else’s money.

I even had a bit of money leftover to gamble, which didn’t go as well as I hoped. I made the mistake of betting with my heart, which I don’t really need to do to enjoy the AEW pay-per-views. I got one of four bets correct, but it was enough for me to break even overall, which is all I ever wanted. Having money leftover on a pay-per-view Sunday seems wrong when someone pays you to write about it. It’s like a quarterly holiday for me, and still is since I can do my research and write the piece in the days prior to the pay-per-view.

Being a professional pro wrestling writer became one of my two most recent dream jobs since falling back in love with it thanks to AEW. My other dream job is professional wrestling announcer, and I’m already gaining the experience necessary to someday be a pro wrestling announcer.

I will continue providing betting advice on NHL games at BettingPlanet.com and hope to do so for MLB games when that season starts. More importantly, writing these betting reviews has made me a better sports bettor. I’m currently up $52.45, making mostly $5 wagers and winning 14 of my 26 NHL bets. Most of my bets are parlays on the biggest favorites of the day and parlay bets on the over/under, so I chase long odds more than pick a lot of games.

Since I’m on a small budget, I’m limiting the number of bets I can make each day and the total amount I can bet. I’ve always had a grinder’s mentality. Do your research. Bet what you know, never what you feel. Never get overextended. Live to bet another day.

While it’ll be awhile before I get a chance to write about professional wrestling again, I still can’t believe it’s happened at all and can’t believe it’ll happen again. Perhaps, someday, instead of analyzing the storylines of the top talent in AEW, I’ll be writing those storylines. Until then, I’m happy being paid to offer the best betting advice I can based on the many hours of AEW Dynamite, Rampage, Dark, and Dark Elevation I watch. Wrestling Wednesday has never felt better than it does as a professional pro wrestling writer.

P.S. Dr. Britt Baker defends the AEW Women’s World Championship against Thunder Rosa in a steel cage tonight on AEW Dynamite. It’s the first women’s steel cage match in AEW history. You might want to catch that on TBS at 8 p.m. Eastern.
